Healthcare professionals: What makes a great one?

  • Chiropractor, Educate, Health

Seeking medical or health advice can sometimes be a daunting task. Some practitioners make you feel like you’re being well looked after. And others? Not so much. Whether it’s your Chiro, Physio or GP, we’ve put together a short list of characteristics we believe great primary healthcare professionals hold, irrespective of their studied discipline.

What is Primary Healthcare?

Primary healthcare is the first contact a person has with the health system when they seek professional advice. It refers to a broad range of health services including but not limited to medical, dentistry, physiotherapy or chiropractic.

What is a Primary Healthcare practitioner?

You may have several primary healthcare professionals you see regularly, for example your dentist, counselor, dietician or physiotherapist. But for most, a primary healthcare practitioner is usually a GP.

What makes great Primary Healthcare professionals?

A great Primary Healthcare professional…

  • Makes a big impact, through small sustainable changes. They empower you with the education to make better choices so that you can make the greatest positive impact on your overall health in the most efficient and sustainable way.
  • Promotes proactive health care. They live and breathe proactive healthcare. They wholeheartedly believe prevention is better than cure. Most importantly, they practice what they preach!
  • Is holistic in their diagnostic approach. A good diagnostician should be at the forefront of every primary health care provider. A good diagnostician treats the underlying cause, not the presenting symptoms. They recognise the ‘whole’ person – physical, psychological, emotional and social. They address all four pillars in unity as a system, with ‘wellness’ as the end goal.
  • Commits to getting and keeping you healthy. Health is not a destination, it’s a journey. A great health professional not only commits to getting you healthy and feeling well, they stick around and offer advice and treatment to make sure you stay on track and feeling good.
