Private health insurance

This page explains how private health insurance claiming works at Human Movement Co, including on-the-spot HICAPS claiming, how rebates may apply to your care, and a few extra things worth knowing before you book.

In most cases, what you can claim depends on your level of cover and your extras policy. If you are unsure what applies to you, this page will help point you in the right direction.

You do not need to figure everything out before contacting us — this page is here to make getting started feel simpler.

Who this page is for

This page may be relevant if you:

  • have extras cover and want to know whether you can claim for chiropractic or physiotherapy
  • want to understand how HICAPS works for on-the-spot claiming
  • are a BUPA member and want to understand what Members First means
  • are with a fund like BUPA, nib or AHM and want to know whether additional rebates or gym membership support may apply
  • want to better understand the practical cost side of care before you book

If you are not sure what your fund covers, that is normal — what you can claim depends on your individual level of cover.

How private health claiming works

If you have extras cover, claiming is usually straightforward. This is the general process.

Check your extras cover

Check your extras cover

What you can claim depends on your individual policy, including the level of extras cover you hold and whether chiropractic or physiotherapy is included.

Attend your appointment

If you’re eligible, you can claim your rebate with our HICAPS terminal at the end of your visit.

Claim on the spot through HICAPS

Claim on the spot through HICAPS

We accept HICAPS for on-the-spot private health claims, which means your rebate can usually be processed instantly and you only pay the remaining gap on the day.

Keep an eye on your yearly limits

Keep an eye on your yearly limits

Extras limits may reset on 1 January for some funds and 1 July for others, depending on your insurer and policy. If you are unsure, it is worth checking directly with your health fund.

What you may need before booking

Before booking, it may help to have:

  • your private health insurance card
  • a general idea of what your extras cover includes
  • confirmation from your fund if you want to know your likely rebate in advance
  • any questions you want clarified before you attend

If you are not sure what your cover includes, the safest option is to contact your health fund directly. Rebates can vary quite a bit depending on the plan you are on.

BUPA, nib and AHM members

If you are with BUPA, nib or AHM, it may be worth checking whether your policy includes any additional extras-related benefits beyond standard consultation claiming.

At Human Movement Co, we are a BUPA Members First provider, which may be relevant for eligible BUPA members depending on their level of cover.

Some health funds — including BUPA, nib or AHM — may also allow members to claim back part of their gym membership fees if an exercise program has been recommended by a health professional such as a chiropractor or physiotherapist.

In most cases, this kind of claim depends on:

  • your individual policy
  • your extras cover
  • and whether the exercise program has been formally recommended as part of your care

Common questions

Here are some of the questions people commonly ask about private health claiming.

Yes — we accept HICAPS for on-the-spot claims where your policy covers the service. In most cases, this means your rebate is processed instantly and you pay the remaining gap on the day.

That depends on your health fund and your level of extras cover. Rebates vary from person to person, so the most accurate way to check is through your insurer directly.

Not always. It depends on your policy and what is included in your extras cover.

We are a BUPA Members First provider. This may affect what eligible BUPA members can claim, depending on their cover. If you are a BUPA member, it is worth checking directly with BUPA to understand your rebate details.

Some funds, including BUPA, nib and AHM, may allow this where an exercise program has been recommended by a chiropractor or physiotherapist. Eligibility depends on your policy and your fund’s criteria. If this is something you are interested in, reach out to us here and we can help guide you.

This depends on your fund and policy. Some extras limits reset on 1 January, while others reset on 1 July.
