WorkCover & CTP motor vehicle accidents

This page explains how WorkCover and CTP claims work at Human Movement Co, so you can understand whether this pathway may apply to you.

We regularly see patients under both workers compensation and CTP motor vehicle accident pathways. The State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) oversees these schemes, which means there is a specific approval and claims process that needs to be followed.

Depending on your presentation, both chiropractic and physiotherapy may be appropriate under this pathway.

If your claim has been accepted and you have been issued a claim number, you can book the care you need and we will invoice the insurer directly for approved treatment.

Who this page is for

This page may be relevant if you:

  • have an accepted workers compensation claim
  • have an accepted CTP motor vehicle accident claim
  • have been given a claim number by the insurer
  • are trying to understand how insurer-funded treatment works before you book
  • want to know whether chiropractic or physiotherapy may be used under this pathway

A common point of confusion is that some people say they have “lodged it with SIRA.” In practice, that usually means they have started a workers compensation or CTP claim — but they may not yet have a valid claim number until the insurer has actually registered the claim.

How this pathway works

The process can vary slightly depending on the insurer and the nature of the claim, but this is the general flow in NSW.

The claim is lodged

The claim is lodged

For a work injury claim, the worker reports the injury, the employer notifies their workers compensation insurer, and the insurer opens the claim.

For a CTP motor vehicle injury claim, the injured person lodges the claim with the relevant motor accident insurer.

The insurer allocates the claim number

The insurer allocates the claim number

This is an important step. In both WorkCover and CTP matters, the insurer issues the claim number. SIRA oversees the system, but it is not the body that provides the claim number.

You book your appointment

You book your appointment

Once your claim is accepted and you have the relevant insurer details and claim number, you can book the care you require and let us know you are attending under a WorkCover or CTP pathway.

Depending on your presentation, that may involve chiropractic, physiotherapy or a combination over time. Where treatment is approved under the claim, we invoice the insurer directly after your appointments rather than asking you to pay privately each time.

What you may need before booking

Before booking, it’s helpful to have:

  • your claim number
  • the insurer name
  • the case manager name, if one has been allocated
  • the date of injury or accident
  • the employer name, if it is a workers compensation claim
  • your treating GP details, if relevant
  • any approval, referral or claim paperwork you have already been given

Common questions

Here are some of the questions people commonly ask about WorkCover and CTP care.

Yes — if your claim has been accepted and you have a claim number, you can usually go ahead and book the care you need.

In most cases, once your accepted claim and claim details are in place, we invoice the insurer directly for approved treatment.

Yes — we regularly see patients under both pathways and are very familiar with the overall process.

In NSW, SIRA is the State Insurance Regulatory Authority. They oversee the workers compensation and CTP systems, but the claim itself is handled by the insurer.

Maybe — but what matters for billing purposes is whether the insurer has registered the claim and given you a valid claim number. If you do not yet have a claim number, it is often best to clarify that first.

Potentially yes. Both chiropractic and physiotherapy may be relevant depending on your presentation.

The key things we want are:

  • claim number
  • insurer name
  • case manager name, if allocated
  • date of injury or accident
  • employer name for WorkCover claims
  • treating GP details, if relevant
