What should I expect in each consult?

At Human Movement Co. we believe in cross disciplinary care. A close-knit team of professionals with many years of experience working together to give you the best possible care.

If you’re seeing one of our primary healthcare providers, whether it be a chiropractor, physiotherapist or both you can expect to receive a consistent and thorough patient experience when you visit our practice.

We offer three appointment types:

(1) Diagnostic consult (initial visit to our practice)

This appointment is for you if you have never visited our practice before OR you are a returning to our practice with a new condition or injury OR your last visit to us was longer than 12 months ago.

This appointment takes approximately 30 minutes but we recommend you allow up to 40.

This appointment covers your comprehensive medical history, a physical examination, a differential diagnosis (to identify dysfunction or damage), a prognosis (to predict recovery times and patient outcomes), hands on treatment from a chiropractor or physiotherapist, demonstration of self-directed exercises if necessary and referral/s to external professionals if necessary.

(2) Functional consult (review)

This appointment is for you if your practitioner has recommended a functional assessment of your progress to determine whether to continue, adapt or cease the current treatment plan.

This appointment takes approximately 25 minutes but we recommend you allow up to 30.

(3) Adjustment, exercise and rehab consult (subsequent visits to our practice)

This appointment is for you if you’ve attended a diagnostic consult and require chiropractic adjustments or physiotherapy-guided exercise to address pain or discomfort or enhance biomechanics and functional movement patterns.

This appointment takes approximately 15 minutes.

How much will each session cost?

Chiropractic + Physiotherapy:

Principal Consult (Initial visit to our practice) $130

Functional Movement Consult (Physio) $95

Adjustment Consult (Chiro) $75

Massage Therapy:

90 minutes $160

60 minutes $120

30 minutes $65

How long does session go for?

Initial consultations 30 minutes

Subsequent consultations 15 minutes

Can I have a longer subsequent consultation?

We give customised treatment to every patient, so we charge by consultation only, not on a ‘per hour’ basis. It usually takes 15 minutes to create a positive effect, however this is dependent on how the body responds on the day. If it’s more treatment time you’re after, we recommend you come in for more regular consults instead of long one when you feel your symptoms starting to resurface. The body responds efficiently to shorter, more frequent treatments so will see faster progression with this approach.

What should I wear?

To properly assess your posture and joint movement, please bring shorts and a singlet to wear during your consultation.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

Chiropractors are primary healthcare providers which means you don’t need a referral from your GP to make an appointment at Human Movement Co. However, if you are seeking treatment under the Medicare EPC Team Care Arrangement, you will need your GP to prepare a care plan for you prior to your appointment.

What do I need to bring to my appointments?

If you have any of the following, please bring them to your consultation;

  • Advanced imaging (MRI, X-ray, Ultrasound, etc) images and reports
  • Referral letters
  • Health fund card
  • Medicare card (only applicable to Medicare EPC referral patients)
  • Claim number and insurance case manager contact details (only applicable to SIRA Workers Compensation and Motor Vehicle Accident claims)

Do I need an MRI or X-rays?

You do not need to have MRI or X-ray images prior to your initial consultation. During your consultation, Dr Tim will discuss with you if it is necessary, and will refer you for the appropriate imaging.

Do you treat kids and babies?

While Dr Tim has done the appropriate training to be able to assess and treat children, he is not expert in this area and would be happy to refer you to another practitioner who has a keen interest in paediatrics.

Do Chiropractors just assess, diagnose and treat spinal injuries?

The short answer is no. While many will present to a Chiropractor with some form of axial (spinal or pelvic) pain and/or dysfunction, it is becoming increasingly common for patients to present with peripheral (hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands) injuries too.

Chiropractors spend years fine tuning their peripheral neurology and orthopaedic examination skills to be able to properly assess the structural integrity of the peripheral skeleton, highlight dysfunctions movement patterns and accurately diagnose a tissue in lesion.

Is it ok to see a Chiropractor when I am pregnant?

Yes. While the treatment approach and frequency will change to provide the most appropriate care, it is common for patients to receive treatment while they are pregnant.

Dr Tim’s wife has received weekly adjustments from the 2nd week of her pregnancy to alleviate tension in the back muscles and improve the function of her lumbar spine and pelvis.

Where should I park the car?

The Norton St Plaza offers free two-hour parking. Alternatively, there is ticketed parking available on Norton St.

What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, notify us as early as possible so we may offer your appointment block to another patient. Consultation fees apply to any appointment rescheduled or cancelled with less than 18 hours notice. All outstanding balances on accounts must be settled before or at the time of your next booking.
